Community Service

Community service consists of activities that benefit the community as a whole or individuals within the community. Students may not receive payment for the service, and the recipient of the service may not be related to the student. Community service performed as a member of another organization such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or church groups will be considered for Beta Club membership.

 

Examples of Acceptable Community Service:

  • baby sitting at a church nursery

  • performing yard work or odd jobs for elderly neighbors

  • visiting residents at nursing homes

  • cleaning up parks

  • volunteering with organizations

  • participating in charity fundraisers, etc.

 

Examples of Unccceptable Community Service:

  • babysitting younger siblings or relatives

  • helping teachers (teacher's assistant)

  • performing in a choir, play, or ensemble

  • participating in sports

  • anything activity that involves pay for service

ON-GOING SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

Where: Mid-South Food Bank

​

What: Monthly Night Sort

 

Location:Heistan

               1269 Heistan Place

               Memphis, TN 38104

 

Duties:Volunteers help to inspect food, sort food, and pack food at the receiving warehouse.

This once a month night sort is always the third Thursday of the month from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

This opportunity is best suited for volunteer groups as we need a minimum of 30 volunteers to stay open after hours. However, individuals are welcome to volunteer as well.

 

Qualifications:Must be able to stand for three hours on concrete.

Must be able to work in the heat and cold.

A willing heart to feed the Mid-South
